National Day of Prayer: DuPage Celebration

The National Day of Prayer annual DuPage gathering is Thursday, May 6 at The Compass Church, 1551 E. Hobson Rd., Naperville, 60540. Noon to 1PM. Admission is free, and all our welcome.

70 YEARS OF PRAYER

This coming year marks 70 years since the Rev. Billy Graham stood on the capitol steps in February, 1952 and called for congress and the president to establish a day of prayer. By April that year, President Truman had signed the legislation into public law.

Through the decades, Americans have observed the National Day of Prayer in all 50 states and in U.S. territories, praying for our nation. These prayers have not stopped through wars, peace, political shifts, celebrations, and now a global pandemic.

THEME AND VERSE:

This year’s focus is, “LORD, pour out Your LOVE, LIFE and LIBERTY.”  This prayer proclaims the truth found in the theme verse, 2 Corinthians 3:17  “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (NKJV)

The National Day of Prayer, as designated by our government, belongs to all Americans — it is not owned by any one group, and every American can observe NDP in their own way.

This year volunteer coordinators are preparing for a variety of events, both virtual, and in-person events in creative formats such as prayer flights, prayer drives, television broadcasts, and more. No matter the format, there will be prayer from sunrise in Maine to sunset in the Pacific islands on the National Day of Prayer!
